What Is Included
A custom home comes with a lot of moving parts. Here's what that looks like with us, from the first conversation about your lot to the day we hand you the keys.

Net Zero Qualified Custom Homes
Don May Construction is a Qualified Net Zero Builder. That training shows up in how we design, plan and build, not as a marketing label. It also means your home is not built to the minimum of today's code, so it still holds up as the standards move.
Net Zero Qualified Custom Homes
Your house is designed around orientation, insulation, air sealing, glazing sizes.
Better envelope decisions
A tight, well-insulated envelope is the foundation for a comfortable, durable home.
Lower operating costs
A well built home costs less to heat, cool, and run, year after year. Over the life of a home, that adds up.
Future-ready home design
A Net Zero Qualified approach gives you the option to add solar, battery storage, or other upgrades later, with the home already set up to take them.

Frequently asked
questions
How long does a custom home build take?
Every custom home is different, and the timeline depends on the design, the site, the permitting, and the scope of finishes. We do not quote timelines without a real conversation. Reach out and we will talk through what is involved and give you a realistic schedule for your project.
Can Don May build a Net Zero home?
Yes. Don May Construction is a Net Zero Qualified Builder through the Canadian Home Builders' Association.
For a new home, that means we can work with the designer, energy advisor, and homeowner to plan around the performance targets required for a Net Zero or Net Zero Ready build. In BC, energy performance is also tied to the BC Energy Step Code, so the right approach depends on the home, the site, the budget, and the level of certification the owner wants to pursue.
Do you work with my architect or designer?
Yes. We regularly work alongside the homeowner's chosen architect or designer. We can also recommend local people we have worked with in the past if you do not have one yet.
How early should I contact a builder before buying land?
Earlier is better. A short conversation before you buy a lot can save you from surprises around servicing, setbacks, slope, soils, and permitting. We are happy to look at a lot you are considering and give you a straight read on it.
